Windows XP Logon Screen

How do I go about changing the appearance of my logon screen? I assume there are some freeware/shareware programs out there to do it for me, but is there a manual way as well? I found a nice example of a logon screen owned by ASE member smartass083 here: »http://www.aselabs.com/img.php?id=314
